The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix
PUBLISHED: July 2021
GENRE: Thriller / Horror
BLURB:
Like his best-selling novel The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires, Grady Hendrix’s latest is a fast-paced, frightening, and wickedly humorous thriller. From chain saws to summer camp slayers, The Final Girl Support Group pays tribute to and slyly subverts our most popular horror films – movies like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Scream.
Lynette Tarkington is a real-life final girl who survived a massacre. For more than a decade, she’s been meeting with five other final girls and their therapist in a support group for those who survived the unthinkable, working to put their lives back together. Then one woman misses a meeting, and their worst fears are realized – someone knows about the group and is determined to rip their lives apart again, piece by piece.
But the thing about final girls is that no matter how bad the odds, how dark the night, how sharp the knife, they will never, ever give up.

Final Girl support group is Scream meet I know what you did last summer. It has all the right ingredients for an awesome slasher book. A Support Group for Final Girls. You know the girl that kills the bad guy in the end. Yup, them.
* Marilyn Torres, who won’t let leather touch her skin
* Adrienne Butler, who was a counselor at Camp Red Lake
* Dani Shipman, whose babysitting job didn’t quite go to plan
* Heather DeLuca, who faced off against the Dream King
* Julia Campbell, whose experiences were turned into the Stab movies
* Lynnette Tarkington, who tells the story.
Yet, this book missed big time in the end. Final-Girls Support Group was not what I was thinking it would be. In truth I do not know what I was expecting, but not this! I did not want the main character to be so irritating. I did not want not want her to survive.
Final-Girls Support Group was not scary, it did not give me a fright. I did, however, listen to the end to see who the killer was and for that the book get one more star rating.
Would I recommend it? No.
I give Final Girls Support Group
★★★ out of 5 Stars

Tell Me, Do you like slasher books? Can you recomment any?
As Always, Stay Safe and Happy Reading!!!!
I wouldn’t expect this kind of book to be scary, given it seems to be a slasher story
I love horror books, so this is right up my alley. Nice review!
Thank you for your comment!
Slasher books like the scream movies do give me a certain edge. So let’s hope the right killer is caught 🙂. The “guess the killer” concept is quite interesting. Great review Anke.
Thank you for the great comment! I love also the guess the killer….
Oh no, sorry you didn’t like this book! It sounds like it would be great based on the description!

That is what I thought too based on the description. Maybe if I read the book my outcome would have been different?
I am yet to read any horror style books but I do want to give one a read at some point. Thanks for your review x
